Waitakere Ranges Local Board Voters by Suburb

Looking at the voting data, it’s obvious our local board area has three distinct groups. Titirangi representing 29%, Glen Eden 31% and the Coastal and Foothills communities combining to make the last 40%. CLICK ON GRAPH FOR A LARGER VIEW

Two suburbs combine to make up the bulk of voting public, Glen Eden and Titirangi and it is fair to call this the urban vote. Sunnyvale would also fit the urban description. But subtract the anomalies of Green Bay, Massey and New Lynn, where a handful of voters somehow get captured inside the Waitakere Board boundaries and you are left with 13 different communities widely spread a crossed this third-largest local board by area. These smaller communities are best described as rural and coastal and have their individual distinct identity. Only a few of Auckland City’s 19 local boards find themselves in this situation. This brings with it a challenge for elected Board Members to make sure the distinctly different needs of the smaller communities are also met.
