I suppose one never retires from politics, it’s in your blood. As I read recent media reports of how low, public satisfaction with Waitakere local politics had become, I’d been feeling motivated to do something about it. So when WestWards approached me and asked if I would run with them, I was really pleased.

I’m a proud Westie for more than 36 years. You may know me from Tim’s Team on Council.

I was his works chairman for the Waitemata City Council.

Or the Auckland Regional Council and the Waitakere City Council.

Before I was a City councillor I owned the Thirsty Rooster with Scott Rodgers, before he went into real estate. We were the best bar in the West back then!

I’ve been involved with the Auckland Agriculture Council for over 40 years.

I have been a volunteer at the Easter Show for 47 years in the Agricultural section helping with poultry, pigs, and sheep.

Today I run the Karamatura Heritage Farm Trust and work part time for Richies as a school bus driver.

Throughout my life, I have been involved with many clubs and organizations, applying my business and council experience to help such groups as the Huia Fishing Club, Huia Museum, Auckland Agricultural and Pastural Society. I sat on the Board of Motat for many years and for some time the Auckland Memorial Museum Board and ASB Shows Board. I have 8 Life memberships, and I’m the local Justice of Peace for nearly 30 years.

Life’s been good to me.

Things that I’ve done in my political positions.

Installed the Titirangi to Laingholm Sewage System.

Made our Beaches cleaner.

Worked with the ARC to double track railways.

Worked with a team to save the Huia Domain.

Things I want to do….

Help make Glen Eden safe again, work with the Police and Community to get it done. Put the Eden back into Glen Eden.

The old guard still thinks Glen Eden is a borough not part of the City. I don’t like the super City but we are stuck with it. I’ll work with Auckland Council to make our area better, not get bogged down in fighting Council.

I’m very concerned with the preservation of old history and buildings in Swanson, and I will help to preserve it.

I will let Parau spray their own weeds, as long as they do it.

One fix does not fit all.

We are slowly loosing Hinge Bay at Huia due to lack of interest with Council and we badly need a safe boat ramp at Little Huia.

Oratia and Bethells need all the help to preserve the small farms. Work with other community organisations like schools to coordinate better parks and play grounds. Piha badly needs a skate board ramp. I’m here to work for you not for any Political Party. Vote WestWards and the team.

We all live and work here and love it. Thats why its time to bring back Carl Harding.
