Brian Rudman: Why do people enter Local Elections
Mr Brian Rudman’s political commentary in this morning’s Herald, asking why people put themselves forward as candidates in local government elections, was an interesting read. He asked “Why on earth do they do it” and then pre-empted any reply with a litany of political problems and failures. I can only answer for myself, in the words of Winston Churchill “for nonsense to reign good people need only do nothing”. On behalf of all the people who have found themselves motivated (probably by one or more of Mr Rudman’s points) to stand for these local government elections, please don’t yawn. Think hard, and then stand up and vote!
